Sherpa is the deep curly pile that traps air instead of lying flat, which is why this feels warmer than its weight suggests. The tartan is woven into the pile rather than printed over the top of it, so it keeps its depth and its colour instead of going shiny and flat at the elbows. It zips the whole way up, so you can wear it open over a shirt or closed to the chin when the wind turns, with a collar that stands up and two pockets for cold hands.
