Nearly everything in a country wardrobe is olive, brown or tan, which is restful and also exactly why a plum scarf earns its keep. The check is drawn in deep burgundy with broad blocks of pale pink and grey, colours that lift a navy or black coat and sit better against green wax than you would expect. Look closely and the weave runs on the diagonal, a twill rather than a flat plain weave, which is what gives the surface its softness and a little depth in the colour where the two shades cross. The fringing at both ends is knotted rather than cut.
