The quilting here runs in squares rather than diamonds, which is the first clue that this is the lighter member of the family. There is less loft behind it and a thinner cloth over it, so it does the job a quilted jacket is often asked to do and rarely manages: keeping the chill off in April and October without being far too much by eleven o’clock. Thin enough, too, to go under a wax jacket in January without bunching at the shoulder. Stud front, handwarmer pockets above two stud-down ones, and a tartan throat tab at the collar.
