A mitten is warmer than a glove for the plain reason that four fingers sitting together keep one another warm, where four fingers in separate sleeves each lose their heat alone. You give up dexterity for it, which is why a mitten suits a walk, a market or a touchline rather than a morning of gates and dog leads. These are cut from Barbour’s waxed cotton, so they shed rain and age the way the jackets do, lined with fleece and finished at the cuff with faux fur. Sponge clean only, as with anything waxed.
