Tartan on this scale is meant to be seen. Thrown over a wax jacket on a bright cold morning it lifts the whole look, and there is enough of it, a full 200 by 70 centimetres, to wind twice at the throat, hang loose down the front of a coat or sit across the shoulders like a shawl when the afternoon turns. The weave is soft and light in the hand with a thread of silk running through that catches the light as you move, so it carries just as well into lunch or a wedding as it does round the ring at a point-to-point. Pin-fringed at both ends.
