Cotton rather than wool, which makes this the comfortable one rather than the technical one. The loop pile is essentially towelling knitted into the inside of the sock, so it is soft underfoot straight out of the drawer and cushions a wellington’s hard footbed without adding bulk at the calf. Knee length, so nothing rubs where the boot shaft sits, and the tartan turns over at the top. Cotton also washes hard and often in a way wool will not. For a cold wet day standing still, wool is the better answer. For everything else, this is the pair you reach for.
