These are chaps rather than trousers, and the distinction matters. A full waterproof trouser wraps the whole leg and you cook in it. Chaps cover the front and the outside, which is where wet grass, brambles and the rain running off a coat actually arrive, and leave the back open so the heat can get away. They go on over what you are already wearing, and the hand vents let you reach the pockets of the trousers underneath. Waterproof with taped seams, and a non-slip waistband that will not ride down at a gate.
