The half hunter is the clever one. Its numerals sit on the cover itself, ringing a glazed window in the middle, so a glance tells you the time with the lid still shut. Open it properly and there is a plain white dial behind, Roman numerals, slim black hands and a quartz movement that asks nothing of you. The case is polished silver tone, restrained enough to sit under a waistcoat without announcing itself, and it comes on a chain with a clip at the far end so it stays where you put it. Boxed, with a two-year guarantee.
