The joke lands rather better if you shoot. Three pheasants come hurrying in at the news that the bar is open, which on a shoot day means the guns are down and the birds have nothing further to worry about. It is painted in watercolour across a pale face, with a tankard at the centre where the hands turn and the numerals written by hand rather than set in type. It runs on a single AA battery. The sort of thing that ends up in a boot room, a games room or a lodge kitchen, and gets remarked upon by everybody who comes through.
