Moleskin has nothing to do with moles. It is a heavy cotton, woven tight and then brushed until the face lifts into a short dense nap, which is why it feels like suede and why it is warm out of all proportion to its weight. It is quiet too, which counts for something moving through cover where a technical fabric rustles and gives you away. These are cut on Barbour’s Neuston chino, regular through the leg, with side seam pockets, welt pockets behind and a tartan binding inside the waistband that only the wearer ever sees. Wash at thirty, and separately.
