Barbour’s diamond quilt is the famous one, but a baffle does a different job. Six-centimetre channels leave far bigger pockets of loft between the stitch lines, so more air is held and the jacket carries a fuller line than a close diamond ever gives it. The trims are sueded microfibre at the collar and down the placket, which is what stops a plain navy jacket looking like a gilet that happens to have sleeves, and a leather badge sits at the back of the neck.
