Fingertips are the first thing to go cold and the last thing most mittens bother about. Plenty are lined as far as the palm and left bare beyond it, which is precisely backwards. These are fleeced the whole way to the ends, with a waterproof membrane over the top and an elasticated wrist to stop the weather working its way in. The cuff is finished with faux fur, which is the part people notice, though it is the lining that does the work. Black or forest, and sponge clean only: nothing waterproof takes kindly to a machine.
