Pellets do not fly flat. A .22 loses several inches between twenty yards and forty, which is why airgunners learn holdover before anything else, and why the dots on this reticle earn their keep more than they would on a centrefire. Paired with the adjustable objective they become a system: turn the front bell until the target snaps sharp and you have your range, then pick the dot that matches it. Four to twelve is magnification enough to see a pellet hole at thirty yards, which is how you learn what your rifle actually does.
