This is the foxing combination. The fifty-millimetre bell keeps the picture usable once the light has gone, and the mil dots let you hold over for a longer shot without dialling, which matters when the range changes field by field and the fox is not waiting while you count clicks. Neither feature does much for someone shooting off a bench at a known distance. Together, on a rifle carried out at dusk, they are the two things you actually want.
