Sixteen times is more magnification than most shooting needs, and knowing when it earns its place is the trick. Off a bipod at a rested hundred and fifty yards it shows you things a twelve will not. Freehand at dusk it shows you your own heartbeat, and the picture thins to 3.1mm of light at the top end, less than the 4-12×50 manages wound fully out.
