Padding a whole sock is the lazy way to make one comfortable, and it leaves you with something thick that bulks out a boot and cooks the foot. This one is padded at the heel, the ball and the toe, which is where the load actually falls, and knitted thin everywhere else with mesh panels through the instep to let the heat out. Elastic support is worked into the cuff and up the leg so it will not slide down inside a boot, and the toe is seamless. Forty-two per cent Merino, and made by a bootmaker, which shows.
