A waterproof glove usually fails at the wrist. Rain runs down a sleeve, finds the gap and gets in behind the membrane, and once it is in there it stays for the rest of the day. The toggle here draws the cuff tight under a coat sleeve so that does not happen, and the knitted rib beneath keeps the seal comfortable. The palm is faced in polyurethane, which counts for more than it sounds: a wet membrane glove is a slippery thing on a gate latch or a fore-end. Quilted across the back for warmth, and the fingertips work a telephone without coming off.
